What is Area?
In geometry, Area is the quantity that expresses the extent of a two-dimensional shape or planar lamina. It represents the amount of space inside the boundary of a flat (2D) object such as a triangle, circle, or rectangle.
Area is universally measured in "square units" (such as square meters, square feet, or square inches) because you are mathematically multiplying two distinct one-dimensional measurements (like length and width) together.
Common Area Formulas
- Rectangle: Area = Length × Width
- Square: Area = Side²
- Circle: Area = π × Radius²
- Triangle: Area = ½ × Base × Height
- Trapezoid: Area = ½ × (Base 1 + Base 2) × Height
